Kingston Democrats Achieve Clean Sweep in Local Elections

Kingston, NY — In a landmark victory for local Democratic candidates, Kingston
Democrats won every seat contested in the November 4, 2025 municipal elections. All
nine Common Council seats were secured by Democratic candidates, reflecting strong
community support for their presentation of inclusive governance, sustainability, and civic engagement.
Additionally, all four county legislator positions representing Kingston were taken by
Democrats, ensuring unified representation at both city and county levels.
“Our success at the polls is a testament to the dedication of our candidates and the values shared by Kingston voters,” said Kingston Democratic Committee Chair Bill Reynolds.
“We’re ready to move forward together with bold ideas and collaborative leadership.”
The unofficial Common Council results are as follows:
Ward 1: Incumbent Sara Pasti was reelected with 486 votes with no opposition. She
had a primary election opponent whom she defeated in June.
Ward 2: Incumbent Michael Tierney over his Republican opponent, 374-63.
Ward 3: Newcomer Marissa Marvelli was elected in an uncontested race with 634
votes. She was victorious in a June primary.
Ward 4: Benjamin Falk, also a newcomer, was elected with 201 votes, in an
uncontested race.
Ward 5: Incumbent Teryl Mickens, unopposed, was reelected with 291 votes.
Ward 6: Incumbent Bob Dennison handily defeated his Republican challenger 359-
217.
Ward 7: Newcomer Michael Ham was elected with 439 votes. He did not have a
challenger.
Ward 8: Ruth Katz, in her first race for elective office, rolled over her opponent, 360-
122. She was victorious in the June primary election.
Ward 9: Incumbent Michele Hirsch crushed her opponent, 504-121.
Unofficial county legislative district results are:
District 5: Abe Uchitelle with 1,578 votes. He was unopposed.
District 6: Greg McCollough, 935 votes. He was unopposed, having emerged
victorious in the June primary.
District 7: Peter Criswell with 1,303 votes (unopposed).
District 8: Joe Donaldson, defeating his Republican opponent, 1,316-1,098.
The newly elected officials will begin their terms focusing on housing affordability,
infrastructure improvements, environmental resilience, and transparent policymaking.
Their terms begin January 1, 2026.
Outgoing Council members Rennie Scott-Childress, Jeanne Edwards, Drew Andrews and Steven Schabot will all be given a farewell celebration sponsored by Mayor Steve Noble and the Kingston Democratic Committee on December 3, at Blue Duck Brewing Co. on Hurley Avenue, in Kingston.
The Ulster County Board of Elections will announce official results by mid-November, but this announcement will not affect the outcome of these races.
